About Life Cycle Music Therapy
Founded and run by Certified Music Therapist (MTA) Kira, Life Cycle Music Therapy provides personalized music therapy services throughout the Okanagan Valley and beyond. The practice supports people of all ages, from infants and children to adults at any stage of life.
Each session is guided by the belief that care should meet people where they are—reflecting their individual needs, strengths, and goals. Music is used as a tool for connection, expression, comfort, and growth.
Areas of focus include:
Early childhood development and play-based support
Neurodivergent children and inclusive developmental care
Palliative and end-of-life support in hospice or home settings
Bereavement care for individuals and families navigating loss
Sessions are available both in person and online to offer flexibility and convenience. Services are delivered with warmth, professionalism, and a focus on creating safe, respectful spaces—in homes, community settings, and online.
About the Therapist
Kira Hickerson-Johnson, BMT, MTA (She/Her/Hers)
After spending eight years in the Lower Mainland, Kira is grateful to return to the Okanagan Valley and contribute to the communities she grew up in. Kira holds a Music Diploma in classical guitar (2018) and a Bachelor of Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology (2022), both completed at Capilano University in North Vancouver. Her clinical training included a 1000-hour internship focused on long-term and palliative care, working closely with individuals and families during meaningful life transitions.
Since then, her experience has spanned diverse care settings, including early childhood programs, long-term care, and end-of-life support. Kira incorporates a variety of instruments into her work, including guitar, voice, and percussion, with an emphasis on accessibility and connection through music. Her approach is grounded in a strengths-based, client-led philosophy, and informed by trauma-informed principles and developmental understanding.
Kira strives to create safe, inclusive, and open spaces for clients and their families. She maintains a strong commitment to continuing education and professional growth, always working to align her care with best practices and the unique needs of those she works with. In spring 2021, she completed her End of Life Doula (EOLD) training and plans to offer EOLD services in the coming months. In fall 2023, she completed her Level 2 Guided Imagery in Music (GIM) training, with aspirations to continue on to Level 3 in the future.
Kira is a proud Métis woman currently on a journey of learning and reconnecting with her cultural roots. She brings a spirit of openness, curiosity, and cultural humility to her work and is committed to creating inclusive, culturally respectful spaces for all clients.
She welcomes individuals and families from all backgrounds and identities, and brings warmth, creativity, and deep respect to every session.
Outside of her work, Kira enjoys exploring the natural beauty of British Columbia—whether hiking, walking along the lake, or simply spending quiet time outdoors.
