Services
Life Cycle Music Therapy offers a range of services to support individuals and groups through music. All sessions are provided by Kira Hickerson-Johnson, Certified Music Therapist (MTA), and are designed to meet each client’s unique needs, goals, and strengths.
All services are available in-home and online, with the goal of reducing barriers to access and making music therapy more inclusive for all.
New offerings may be added over time—please check back for updates as the practice continues to grow.
Individual Music Therapy Sessions
Individual sessions are one-on-one appointments where Kira and the client work together to explore, express, and grow through music. Sessions are personalized and may include singing, instrument play, movement, improvisation, songwriting, or listening—depending on the client’s preferences and needs.
These sessions are available for people of all ages and stages of life.
Kira provides all required session materials and instruments for client's use during scheduled sessions.
Sessions can take place in clients’ homes, community settings, or online.
Group Music Therapy Sessions
Group sessions include two to ten participants and are designed to foster connection, communication, and shared experience through music. These sessions support social engagement, peer interaction, and group cohesion, while still honouring each participant’s individual goals.
While music therapy often yields the greatest benefits in smaller groups—where participants can be more actively engaged—larger groups may be accommodated at Kira’s discretion, depending on the goals and setting.
Kira provides session materials and a selection of instruments for group use. While every effort is made to meet specific instrument requests, access to a large quantity of the same instrument may be limited for larger groups. Kira will do her best to accommodate these requests whenever possible.
Group sessions are generally conducted in a facility or community setting. Online options may be available at Kira’s discretion.
Adaptive Music Lessons
It’s more than a lesson.
Adaptive music lessons are for individuals who may not benefit from traditional instruction. Delivered by a trained music therapist, these lessons are guided by therapeutic goals as well as musical development. Clients have the opportunity to grow in areas such as:
Self-esteem
Task completion
Sensory tolerance
Mood and emotional regulation
Fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, and finger isolation
Lessons are adapted through the use of colour coding, visual aids, scheduling, and other therapy-based techniques to suit the individual’s learning style and support client-centered growth.
